Howrah district is one of the highly urbanized area of West Bengal. The urbanized sectors gradually increase the slum populations. The Howrah city called “Glasgow” of India. The small and medium industrial sectors attracted population from the different parts of the West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa etc. According to 2001 census, the total area of ‘Howrah Municipal Corporation’ is 51.70 sq. k.m and the total population is 1007532.
