Transdermal drug delivery of drugs provides an attractive alternative to the route of drug administration, particularly in overcoming disadvantages associated with conventional mode of dosing. Problems such as high first-pass metabolism, less bioavailability up to 25-30%, short half life time up to 2 hour, can be circumvented by administering the drug via the transdermal route. The transdermal patch type delivery system is a suitable device through topical delivery of repaglinide. When compared with approaches from conventional dosage forms, TDDS has two major advantages. The drug is concentratedat its site of action, which reduces possible adverse effects and enhances the effect of the administered dose. Secondly, the controlled drug release allows pharmacological effects to be extended over a period of time at the site of injury and also increase patient compliance with decreased systemic side effects of conventional dosage forms.
