Home and community are spatially fixed locations from which migrants depart and their relocation is observed in ‘new’ homes far from the homeland. By adopting varying literary modes, Meena Alexander explores differing facets of diasporic postcolonial experiences. The diasporic self emerges in her narrative through varied movements across continents and waterways. It leads to the redefinition of immigrant identity which employs rediscovering strategies in discrete spaces, taking up the element of Diaspora as metaphor.
