During the twentieth century, Santo André District and the whole ABC region had suffered an intense process of industrialization and, therefore met several characteristics of an industrial town: rapid growth, strategic location, urban spaces functionally differentiated, social segregation, and attraction of abundant manpower, among others. The neighborhoods formation and the own city expansion had a strong relationship with the workers migration, that came mainly from Sao Paulo inland and neighboring states. These workers were looking for jobs and brought with them the field behavior to get adapted to this new life in the city. This book focuses on the industry worker''s house and studies these houses in order to get an overview of the habitation construction and urban space until the formal and functional aspects of the house, as well as its organization and internal arrangement. Suitable for architects, sociologists, historians and anyone interested in recognizing the called "popular architecture" or vernacular architecture developed in Santo Andre city, both inside and outside the house.
