This book traces the impressive literary life of the Melchizedek figure over eight centuries and through forty texts and traditions. From the murky beginnings in Genesis and Psalm 110, through numerous mentions such as in various Qumran texts, Philo, 2 Enoch, Letter to the Hebrews, and in 'Gnostic' texts such as the Melchizedek Tractate, Pistis Sophia, and up through the many references to the figure in the later Christian and Jewish authors, the importance and purpose of the rewritten figure is explored in depth.
