This book is the outcome of the thesis which investigated the folklore of Shahryar’s poem ‘Hail to Heydarbaba’ in two Persian and English translations which directly translated from Azeri Turkish language. In this regard a sample of the first part of the poem containing sixty-one folklore items along with their Persian and English translations compared and contrasted based on the content analysis of the source text. taking the advantage of the authentic Turkish resources and experts, the authors classified the related Turkish folklore into four categories related to the “ancient customs and behaviours”, “general traditions and customs of Azerbaijan”, “women and children” and “ancient tales and myths”. Then using Baker’s (1992) classification of the translation strategies, it was cleared out that in Persian translation the translator used both cultural substitution and idioms of similar meanings while in English translation idioms of similar meanings and forms was the most frequent one and cultural substitution was used considerably less than Persian one to preserve the Turkish folklore .
