Arterial disease is now reached to a level of world epidemic and no more a major health problem of only the Western world. This alarming expansion is attributed to adaptation of Western life styles in other parts of the world. Scientists in the field agree that change in day-to-day life style in all walks of life can curb the epidemic. About 90 % of arterial diseases are caused by atherosclerosis that is a result of plaque buildup in the arterial wall. Therefore, understanding the mechanisms involved in the onset of atherosclerosis could help to devise diagnostic and treatment procedures that help to cure atherosclerosis which in turn help to reduce risks for arterial diseases. A number of scientific evidences show that elevated lipids bearing macromolecules in the blood and the response of the endothelial cells to the dynamics of the blood flow as potential phenomena in the genesis and progression of atherosclerosis. The author starts by reviewing the mathematical models for blood flow dynamics and transport of lipids. Then provides supporting explanation on the onset of atherosclerosis using computational data obtained from author''s original research work.
