In India, agriculture is the main driver of economic growth. Apart from being critically important for food security, agriculture production is facing threat from emerging problem of air pollution. Tropospheric ozone is one of the most damaging phytotoxic air pollutants known to cause serious damage to agriculture crops, trees and natural ecosystems. In future tropospheric ozone may become an important factor on account of growing emission of ozone forming precursors due to rapid industrialization and economic development and shrinking area of agricultural land. Therefore, protection of agriculture crops from ozone phtotoxicity deserves attention. Present study generated baseline data on responses of different Indian crops to ozone exposure. This is also an effort about identifying new opportunities as preparing to minimize negative impacts of global climate change.
