Changes in analysing prospects for socio-economic and political development in Africa has in the recent past shifted greatly to include actors outside of the traditional political elite category. This change in analysis has coincided with a new conceptualisation of civil society; the role of civil society is become more crucial in governance, and especially in pursuing socio-economic and political development in Africa. This book explores changes in Africa''s governance processes and the opportunities that the changing context is creating for substantive civil society engagement. It examines Africa''s democratic processes highlighting some core aspects of the democratic consolidation endeavours to date. In this analysis, Uganda''s contemporary civil society context is used as a case illustration to examine how changing governance processes are creating opportunities for civil society engagement in national policy framework.
