This study examines the role of breastfeeding in birth spacing in rural and urban areas in Bangladesh. To delineate the birth spacing, the age difference between last and second last child birth have been accounted. The findings indicate that the most of the mothers breastfeed their children after child birth both in rural and urban Bangladesh. It is also observed that continuation rate of breastfeeding is higher among the rural mothers than their urban counterparts. This study also discusses some correlates of birth spacing for breastfeeding which are significantly correlated and consistent with the proposed hypothesis in some cases. The importance of differential determinants is analyzed through the multivariate regression analysis in the study to grasp the effect of particular determinant of breastfeeding in birth spacing. This study ends with a number of directions and policy implications for future research by indicating its limitations.
