This work is an attempt to try to investigate the social security problem of the rural elderly within the context of the existing social security mechanisms in Tanzania, and in relation to the ageing process. It is an effort to challenge the existing forms of conventional social security arrangements as related to the disintegrating traditional safety nets of the african family care systems and the attendant effects of the HIV/AIDS pandemic to the ageing group of the rural elderly. This work examines other alternative possibilities through which the larger social secuirty problem can be dealt with. The Author uses the "Rights-Based Approach" in building his case for the protection and promotion of the Rights of the Rural elderly to accessing and achieving Socio-Economic Security. The work intends to also raise more research interest in the study of social security in Africa.
