Bangladesh is a country vast, largely unknown natural beauty and reserves which are simply unique and fascinating, holding high potentiality for tourism. In many parts of the world, tourism has contributed to the dual goal of poverty eradication and conservation. The co-existence of nature with impoverished communities offers an opportunity for pro-poor tourism. Tourism can support livelihood diversification, which is particularly important in remote areas as it is also labor-intensive, can grow with unspecialized labor and has low entry barriers. Bangladesh has limited natural forest resources which are very necessary for the ecological balance in the country and hence these should be protected efficiently. The present research work seeks to gain an understanding of ecotourism in a global context by examining how it has been conceptualized over time and analyzing the fields from which the concept originated. The work discusses how conservation and ecotourism has been conceptualized and implemented in Bangladesh by analyzing historical developments in environmental issues, the national economy, and the national tourism sector.
