The nadītum as Businesswoman

The lives and actions of the nadītum women in Old Babylonian society have become known to us mainly through cuneiform texts from the city of Sippar, recording the economic transactions of this group of women. They were religious devotees, living under strict regulations, such as celibacy, but they also vividly engaged in the city's economic life. The Old Babylonian nadītum has been the subject of many studies, that have enlightened the nadītum as an actor in the economic system, as well as provided insight in many other aspects of the Old babylonian society. This book attempts to form a compilation of the knowledge of the nadītum as businesswoman.
