The Stage Process Model is a substantially incomplete model for teaching students at any grade level how to write because it does not address certain key variables and activities essential to the writing process. For example, the model does not account for the environment in which the writing takes place, and the model erroneously represents the writing process as a linear, nonrecursive series of steps. Finally, the Stage Process Model is inherently incomplete because it is missing two key phases in the writing process, postsubmission feedback and redrafting. The Total Writing Process Model, illustrated and explained in this book, offers a more comprehensive pedagogical model for teaching students how to write using all of the tools and techniques essential to teaching the art of writing.
