The author developed an interest in writing on inclusion of children with visual impairment because of the negative childhood experiences she encountered while attending school as a learner with visual impairment. In her opinion, she believes that inclusive education has the merits of not only sorting out the debilitating social attitudes towards children with disabilities, due to lack of knowledge from those institutions and social groups that have the immediate responsibility of safeguarding the welfare of children, like teachers, parents and schools. Inclusion also gives back to the society, by creating an awareness of human diversity as a social reality that we need to accept and celebrate from a very early age. In this sense, disability ceases to be an individual problem as has often been the case, but becomes a social responsibility that nurtures the caring spirit among its members. The author believes that this book will be an encouragement to parents, teachers, researchers & governments in the world to embrace inclusion as a better option compared to other types of educational systems that have existed in the market.
