In the present work T.S. Eliot’s religious, spiritual and philosophical ideas are highlighted especially in his dramatic works Sweeney Agonistes to The Elder Statesman. Special attention is focused on the images, similes and references which Eliot borrowed from Greek dramas and the Hindu and the Buddh scriptures. The influence of New England environment, of European culture and traditions the great philosophers and the religious philosophies other than his own on him, as is revealed in his plays, has also been elucidated in this work. Eliot has been religious and archetypal in his creative and critical works. His concern was for the denigration of European culture and society which in his time, as he thought, was under impact of industrial development and greed for materialism and ostentation.
