This is a compedium of notes used over many years of teaching at differrent Universties. The first part of the book deals with general sanitation principles and perceptions of the same by different people. It has chapters on stormwater and sewerwater reticulation, design and management. Both engineering designs of stormwater and sewerwaters are given the due importance they play in the protection of human life and the environment. Basic design approaches are used to start off the students and slowly lifted to state of the art application of software in dealing with these essential topics in water and wastewater engineering and management. The second part of the book deals with wastewater characteristics, definitions and parameters that are essential for characterisation of wastes. Furthermore the part tackles the different ways to treat and disposal of wastewaters. Treatment is divided into preliminary (screens, grit chambers and primary sedimentaion processes) and treatment proper through options like (i)Waste stabilisation ponds, (ii) Activated Sludge (AS), (iii)Trickling Filters.
