As a part of the investigational project 1000 female patients were examined at the Clinic for Nuclear medicine of the University Clinical Center of Sarajevo, age 40 to 75, in the period of 48 months. This project is significant in the early detection of osteoporosis, especially given the inclusion of appropriate therapy. The goal of this study is to advance the progress in medicine and the social field by reducing the hospital costs or lengthy absences from work. The research focus is on the early diagnosis, patient education and marketing development. Additional goal of this study is to compare the cost-effectiveness modeling analyses of strategies to prevent osteoporotic and osteopenic fractures. This study also researches clinical risk factors, such as: mineral density, BMI, nutrition, hormones, postmenopause, alcohol, smoking, etc. and how they relate to the quality of life. In conclusion, this study examines how the hereditary factors influence the incidence of osteoporosis and subsequent bone fractures.
