Over the last years, humanitarian interventions for the purpose of human rights protection have increased. This development leads to many debates about the moral permissibility of humanitarian interventions. Since a large body of literature discusses the moral permissibility of coercive and forcible humanitarian interventions, the present book aims to justify the moral permissibility of peaceful humanitarian interventions. Considering strategic peacebuilding planning, the tensions between sovereignty and peacebuilding as well as debates about accountability and peacebuilding are discussed based on duty-and consequentialist ethics. In terms of peacebuilding implementation, context-specific guidelines for the peacebuilding implementation are provided. They are grounded on virtue ethics. This analysis contributes to contemporary research in the fields of political philosophy, ethics in international relations as well as peace and conflict studies by bridging related topics in those three fields. Moreover, professionals in international relations field may be considering applying the peacebuilding moral guidelines that can contribute to the implementation of more ethical peacebuilding.
