Interview with Ms Gugu Saring and Mrs. Nektili Lego of Dambuk carry a story of how pure Khadi is being weaved in extreme parts of the State. We opened our hearts got engaged in dialogue with Ms Gugu Saring, a Spinner aged 20 years, read up to Class-III and Mrs. Nektili Lego, a weaver aged 27 years, read up to Class - X. On our way en-route we found that they were doing spinning and weaving in the balcony of their traditional house and approached them in vigorous inquisition. Mrs Lego vividly shared that they cultivate their own cotton, the raw cottons are dried in sunlight, cleaned, seeds are removed, the process is called Sipyak kyaknam (ginning) and the tool employed is called Dokat. These cottons are then thoroughly mixed up with the help of bow and spinning was done with spindle, traditional name Popyang and rolled on a device called Nolum. Ms. Saring does spinning and rolling. They weave cloth on loin looms. Their product Badu is a supreme creation, one of the best form of hand spun hand weaved textile. I realised how the essential life-needs in this remote area still revolve round the concept of self reliant economy, unshackling the message of Gandhiji.
