As with most other industrialized countries of the world, the population growth rate for older adults in the United States has rapidly exceeded the growth rate of the population as a whole. Despite these demographic changes, there is a lack of research that explores factors which contribute to the adaptation and well-being of the older population. This book, therefore, investigates the impact of biological, cultural, sociological, and psychological factors which influence the aging process, sexual health, and overall quality of life. Data were collected from residents of one of the largest active retirement communities in the United States. Study findings demonstrate physical fitness impacts perceived sexual desire and perceived sexual performance. The study identified a set of variables that predicted participation in sexual activity, sexual acceptance, sexual satisfaction, and quality of life among older adults. This book is useful for scholars, health professionals, and anyone else interested in the study of aging and sexuality.
