A good number of associated literature has placed more emphasis on the impacts of oil based environmental hazards on sustainable development with emphasis on effects of oil spills and gas flaring on the environment This study was therefore a shift from that and as such an attempt to look at the impact of coastal erosion on sustainable development in Bayelsa state. In doing so, The Political Economy Framework was adopted as the framework for analysis. Consequently, the study employed the description survey research design and questions were administered on the Basis of Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Data was gathered from both primary and secondary source and the descriptive statistical tools were employed in analyzing the data using bar charts. The result of the findings revealed that erosion is a great challenge to sustainable development in Nigeria and particularly to communities under the attack of coastal erosion. To this end, recommendations were made on how to curb its impact on livelihood and sustainable development.
