Plantains and bananas originated from intra and inter specific hybridization between two wild species. M. acuminata Colla. and M. balbisiana Colla., which contributed A and B genomes respectively. B genome is very important as it is associated with resistance to pests, diseases and drought tolerance and also one of the major contributors for determination of starch type. Among diseases of Musa BSV is one of the major constraints and regarding BSV, although integration of BSV DNA into the host’s genome is not required for viral replication, the genome of banana contains numerous endogenous BSV (eBSV) sequences. With this background research on “Role of Bgenome in evolution of Banana (Musa spp) cultivars and spread of Banana Streak Virus (BSV)” was carried out to confirm the hybrid nature and character segregation, morphological studies of F1 progenies studied.
