This book is an inquiry into the predicative modification area of the Bulgarian noun phrase from a comparative perspective. In the first part of the book, three types of double definiteness constructions are discussed. It is argued that the occurrences of two definite determiners inside the same DP signal the presence of a predicative modifier in prenominal position. The second part of the book focuses on the adnominal participial expressions in Bulgarian and English. Two main problems are discussed. First, syntactic tests are applied in order to show that it is possible to isolate verbal participles among all participial expressions occurring in adnominal position. Second, it is maintained that the English prenominal position, which has long been considered adjectival, can actually host real verbal participles. Finally, the work presents some data showing that Bulgarian prenominal participial expressions exhibit certain ordering restrictions. The analysis sheds light on the structure of the Bulgarian noun phrase and thanks to its comparative perspective the book could be useful to scholars studying the structure of the English noun phrase and the English participial expressions.
