Different nations experience different issues and concerns in privatizing their telecommunications systems. This book demonstrates the problems Thailand facing in the attempts to deregulate its telecommunications services. As more people began to demand the telecommunications reform to make the industry more competitive, the Ministry of Transport and Communications started formulating “Telecommunications Development Master Plan”, which was the first official plan to restructure the telecommunications industry, and presented it to the cabinet in March of 1995. The challenges the Telecommunications Development Master Plan has been facing are not only from the public scrutiny and the inexperience of the policy makers but also from sudden political changes that happen so often that they delay the process of implementing the plan. This book reveals an interesting case study in telecommunications reform while underlying key events in the history of Thailand. It makes a good reference for academic scholars as well as policy setters in any country.
