Australia has several thousand protected areas, covering just over ten percent of its total land mass. With the increasing popularity of these areas for tourism and recreation there is a need for planning and management. Protected area managers have several options for managing visitors in natural areas. One technique of visitor management commonly used in protected areas is interpretation. Interpretation programs can add to the visitor experience and help increase the knowledge of visitors to the valuable aspects of a protected area, whilst encouraging desirable behaviours. On- site interpretive signage is a medium commonly to provide visitors with this interpretive information. This book will explore a case study of visitor awareness and use of interpretive signage in the World Heritage listed Mount Warning National Park.
