Laparoscopic cholecystectomy was first done by a French surgeon, Phillipe Mouret in 1987.It is one of the most common elective surgical procedure now-a- days. It has gained widespread acceptance as treatment of choice for cholelithiasis as it is associated with minimal morbidity and earlier return to work.Dexamethasone is well known for its anti-inflammatory, immune-modulating and anti- emetic effect. Dexamethasone is long acting (t half >36hrs) glucocorticoid. It is important modifier of the post-operative physiological inflammatory, humoral and immunological response by the regulation of the trauma induced humoral mechanism.I undertook present study to investigate in what way pre-operative intravenous administration of dexamethasone alters the surgical outcome in patients undergoing un- complicated laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
