Staff Engagement and Talent Management in a Change Environment

A bank had been involved in waves of change situations, hostile takeover, organizational renewal, acquisition and mergers with such frequency that challenged the morale and engagement of the staff and showed in poor productivity. Each change situation produced its peculiar challenges and represented a unique phase in the life of the bank. This reflected uniquely in the spirit, attitude and capacity of the workforce with apparent implications for, not only financial performance, but in particular reflected in several strategic human resource indicators. This monograph took an excursion of the several waves of change the bank was enmeshed in and the challenges of managing staff engagement and talent management under such periods of volatilities. The management styles exhibited during the various change eras became a focus of study in strategic choice making of appropriate integration options that suited the cultural differences of merging partners while productivity and cost concerns critical to the merger objectives were kept in the front burner.
