Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the end result of hypertension and dyslipidaemia. Eclipta Alba and Boerhaavia Diffusa are two precious herbs which effectively control raised blood pressure and deranged lipid levels without causing adverse effects on normal health, but so far we have very scanty number of studies exploring antihypertensive and antidyslipidaemic effects of these two herbs. Present study has been done to confirm these therapeutic effects of Eclipta and Boerhaavia. These effects have also been compared with those of standard allopathic drugs. Study has been done on wistar rats. Descriptions of physiology of lipid transport, pathogenesis of CAD, mechanisms of action of allopathic drugs, general properties and putative mechanisms of action of herbal drugs, lipid profile measurement using semi-automatic analyzer and non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) measurement using NIBP-machine have also been added which should be useful for the students and readers from the corresponding discipline. In this study, Eclipta and Boerhaavia have been found to be significantly effective and safe remedies against major public health problems of hypertension and dyslipidaemia.
