Photodynamic disinfection (PDD) is a new field of study in the Dental Medicine that is still under development. Presently the Photodynamic inactivation of pathogenic cells – bacteria, fungi and tumor cells, is on experimental level of application. This book describes the efficiency of the Photodynamic method as a disinfection procedure in the Prosthetic Dentistry. It was evaluated by detailed in vitro and in vivo investigations. The results showed that PDD as a new procedure was more efficient and competitive to the conventional methods and can be successfully applied for disinfection of dental impressions and prosthetic constructions. Photodynamic disinfection appears to be an effective method for prevention of cross-contamination between patient, clinician and technician. This work can help other scientists in future researches for clinical application of Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) in Dentistry. The new method may be useful for dentists and dental technicians as an alternative disinfection procedure in their practices. PDD can also be used as an adjunctive therapy of denture stomatitis, not only for prosthesis disinfection, but also for treatment of underlying and infected mucosa
