Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Miller)is the one of the most important and readily consumed fresh vegetable of the world. Tomato belongs to Solanaceae family also called Nightshade family. Other members of this family are eggplant, capsicum and potato etc. It is one of the most important growing crops of Pakistan. It contains a large amount of nutrients, which is obtained in cheapest price. But its shelf life is very less and the tomato rottening starts within one or two days after harvest.It is therefore very important to find out an effective means of sterilization for tomato. Gamma radiation is an important sterilization method to eradicate different bacteria, and fungi that cause rottening of fruits and vegetables. Nutritional components of tomato can be analyzed by proximate analysis.
