Film Discourse and Pragmatics in Screen Translation

Film Discourse and Pragmatics in Screen Translation is a contrastive study in the application of pragmatics, and more particularly speech act theory to film discourse in audiovisual translation. It takes M.A.K. Halliday's Systemic Functional Grammar as its theoretical framework and develops Multimodal Pragmatic Analysis (MPA) as a research methodology in interlingual subtitling. The book will be of interest to teachers and students involved in the area of audiovisual translation in general and in interlingual subtitling in particular.
