This book attempts a philosophical analysis of the concept of punishment in Yoruba traditional – African thought in view of addressing the various problems as well as providing a philosophical justification of punishment in Yoruba traditional society. It explores the various theories of punishment and it establishes firmly that punishment in Yoruba conception goes beyond deterrence, reformation, and retribution as contained in western conception. Finally, the book submits that Punishment as it were in Yoruba thought system is imperative for social order and good governance.
