Greece and Turkey are two neighbouring countries that have shared a common history, a history that is often reflected in their literatures as well. Consequently, the network of literary translation relationships between these countries must be considered an interesting area of study. The present book focuses on the dynamics of fiction translations from Greek into Turkish. Following Israeli literary cultural theorist Itamar Even Zohar''s “polysystem theory,” the corpus of translations is considered as belonging to the “system” of translated Greek fiction within the Turkish literary polysystem. The analysis of data obtained from the interviews held with translators and publishers / editors, of those provided by the press reviews and of the paratextual characteristics of some of the Turkish translations have shed considerable light on the literary, social, political, ideological dynamics of translating and publishing modern Greek fiction in contemporary Turkey. This book will appeal to translation scholars/researchers, those who are interested in Greek fiction in translation and translators/publishers in general.
