Every now and then, our education is redefined by critical events. These flashpoints invoke profound changes in the educational lives of both teachers and students. They are illuminated moments of academic innovation and personal transformation. The Brockton Secondary College Short Film Festival (The Boscars) was such an event. This ethnographic study asks; what is criticality in education? Why was the Boscars significant for those involved? Is this impact long lasting? This narrative research explores the deep personal meaning and agency for those involved. In contrast to deficit-based educational research, this is a celebration. This is a study of what works. There has to be a place for celebratory research in education. These are conversations that matter!
