This dissertation seeks to reveal the aspects of functional contribution of perirhinal cortex to creation of rich emotional memories. The experiments attempted to advance and compare the effects of two commonly used techniques in neuroscience - permanent and reversible damage to a brain region. Data demonstrated the the outcome of perirhinal cortex damage is a function of the nature of stimuli and the extent of the lesion. Experimental data also supports the anatomical notion that perirhinal cortex is at the nexus of declarative and non-declarative memory components.
