By and large my dissertation has certainly underscored the significance which Muslims from all walks of life attach and associate with the recitation of Quranic verses. The citation of Quranic verses is being used as a communicative strategy for a host of pragmatic functions one of which is that without the blessing of God one’s actions may not be accomplished as favorably as one wishes and by virtue of that Muslims feel that the success or failure of whatever action they set out to carry is contingent upon the well of God. A second important pragmatic function this thesis has revealed is that the recitation is being used a communicative resource for deflecting the fate or consequences of one’s action on the well of God and by virtue of that Muslims can always exonerate themselves of the outcome of their commitment or actions. Such an attitude may not appeal or receive any kind of credibility to non-Muslims. And finally the finding of my thesis reveals that the recitation in and of itself is an act of confirmation of one’s cultural, linguistic, and religious identity.
