Prefabricated vertical drain, PVD with preloading isone of the widely used techniques to accelerate theconsolidation process in ground treatment program. It is very difficult to choose properdesign parameters during design stage. Therefore, back analysis from field records is a means to verifythese design parameters. The purpose of this workis to evaluate the performance of ground improvementby pre-compression and PVD implemented forthe construction of permanent campus of UniversitiTun Hussein Onn (UTHM),Batu Pahat, Johor,Malaysia by comparing the settlement designparameters between field and laboratory value. Theanticipate magnitudes of settlements were calculatedusing Terzaghi’s one dimensional consolidation theorywhile the monitored settlements were evaluated usingAsoaka’s method. The time rate consolidation with theapplication of PVD was calculated using Hansbo’ssolution adopting both vertical and radialconsolidation effects. It is hoped that, thecorrelation that have been established in thisbook can be used as a guideline to thepractical design on similar site situation.
