Media convergence, digital contents and telecommunications infrastructure are all new concepts in our communication systems. They emerged with the technological revolution in the 20th century and by the introduction of one of the most influential inventions in the human history, the Internet. The ways of communication are changing in an unprecedented rapid motion. More mobility, interactivity and more diversity in contents become available and affordable through the convergence of media contents. Meanwhile, most of the developing countries in the world strive to overcome their economical, social and political obstacles in order to apply media convergence in their societies and establish the Informed Society. Egypt is on the top of list of these countries for what it has of geographical location, telecommunication infrastructure, human resources and very rich Arabic media contents. However, the obstacles in Egypt are almost as big as the potentials. Part of my Masters dissertation, this book discusses the concept of media convergence, and timely evaluates the current situation of the Egyptian media systems and the obstacles and potentials in applying media convergence in Egypt.
