This book is a very informative study of Nayu workers, who are Thai Muslims in the Thai Deep South migrating for employments in the Tom Yam restaurants in Malaysia. It is one of the pioneering research projects on this migration flow across Thai-Malaysian borders. This migration trajectory has a wide range of socioeconomic, political, religious and international implication. Suttiporn deserves a credit for his scholarly vision and efforts. The stength of this study is its ethnographically grounded and descriptive accounts of the migrant networks of irregular Nayu workers from the Thai Deep South being employed in the Tom Yam restaurants in Malaysia. The findings from his research contribute strongly to scholarship in the field of migration studies in the region as well as provide detailed and engaged knowledge on the work and life of Nayu migrant workers, which are rarely research projects focusing on this group of young Thai Muslims as border-crossing migrants.
