Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the intestine in humans, with no known cause. Although Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP), the etiologic agent in Johne's disease has been purported to play an etiologic role in Crohn's disease, this causal link is still under debate. In the present study, MAP was analyzed by utilization of biochemical and epidemiological methods and a relationship was found between MAP and Crohn's disease in humans.
