This research was embarked upon in order to evaluate the existing performance indices of the 132 kV transmission line and provide useful information for the planning of the daily operations of Akure district distribution network. Descriptive statistics of the half-hourly power data for 12 months were evaluated in order to obtain half-hourly and daily maximum and minimum values. The daily load curve for each month of the study year was developed and power flow calculations were carried out using the method of Sequential Approximations. Furthermore, hourly load demand and the annual average costumer population data were obtained from the Akure end of the transmission line for a period of 60 months. The electric power outage data was used to compute the failure rate and the mean time between failures (MTBF) for each of the five years. A regression equation describing the failure rates, a formula for computing the amount of kilowatt of energy lost for each year and the customer oriented interruption indices were determined. The capacities of the system elements in the proposed substation were appropriately sized and a substation circuit diagram was designed.
