During the Victorian age, men’s and women’s roles were culturally defined. Women had no rights and were confined to domestic tasks whereas men had all rights to properties. This book explores the ways in which the protagonist Jane Eyre challenges and overthrows patriarchal forces by asserting her own in Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre. The major purpose is to find Jane’s ability to move from one social class to another by overcoming male’s pressure and social temptation towards her self-fulfillment. To achieve this goal, the study employs Virginia Woolf’s feminist perspective to analyse Jane’s struggle along her journeys to reach freedom and financial autonomy in Victorian society. The outcome is that Jane has been able to break through her domestic role and shape her own destiny in the society thanks to subversionary acts, her feminist ideologies as well as her participation in social work of the time.
