Tropical cyclones are storm systems characterized by low pressure centers and numerous thunderstorms that produce strong winds and flooding rain. An effective early warning system and management prior, during and post incident of this kind of disaster can reduce the damage to a larger extent. Tracking the complete portfolio of historical occurrences can generate a complete set of lessons, based on which effective measures can be undertaken for the management of future events. This case study develops a complete portfolio of the tropical cyclone ‘Nargis'', which attacked parts of Bangladesh and Myanmar during the period of April-May, 2008. In order to achieve that objective, the series of events have been tracked and summarized leading up to the impact, the events during the devastation, and other noteworthy information pertaining to cyclone Nargis encountered in Bangladesh and Myanmar. The work has also focused on the very fundamental concepts of tropical cyclones, the devastation and relief issues of cyclone Nargis and lessons that have been learnt for proper management of such types of tropical cyclones.
