India is committed to Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) and is a signatory of Convention for Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), yet at the start of the 11th Five- Year Plan, women's health and well-being have received far less attention and care both from civil society including their families and from the public sphere. The book found that the prevalence of morbidity, especially obstetric and gynecological morbidity was quite high among women of reproductive age group in rural West Bengal and also in rural Birbhum. Also, the prevalence of non-reproductive morbidity among women of the said age group, though not very high, cannot be ignored. The tendency to seek treatment for any morbidity was not satisfactory. Therefore this book tried to identify the socio-economic and demographic factors, which determine women's health status and their treatment seeking behaviour.
