Education is a basic human need and one form of human capital necessary for transforming nature into a form most suitable for human utility. This book explains the role of access to education in class formation and perpetuation in poor countries like Tanzania. The underlying assumption is that, Structural Adjustment Programmes (SAPs) and its subsequent liberalization that took place beginning mid 1980s increased private primary schools which operate parallel to public primary schools and that access to either of the school systems is not equal among the children. It attempt the question how child family background determines access to either of the school systems. The book shows that the existing unequal access to the two school systems is potential in leading to class conflicts in future. It therefore recommends for free education in primary schools as a way of managing future risks. The book is suitable for development practitioners, sociologists, educationists and all who advocate for human rights and equality.
