Slavery and slave trade was a major economic activity that ravaged the continent of Africa for many decades. During this period, the continent of Africa saw her most energetic men and women transported as slaves particularly to the Americas to work in plantations. In the course of their movement, the Cross River Zone in Cameroon and Nigeria played a remarkable role in the transportation of Africans as slaves from the interior to the coast and later to the Americas. In the course of this exit, many African legacies particularly from the Cross River Zone were transported to the Americas. The legacies that survived were in the form of music and dance, folklore, art and craft, marriage, diet, delivery and names. These amongst others are evidence that Africans and Cross River Zone communities in particular played a remarkable role in the Trans-Atlantic slave trade and the implantation of African cultures in the Diaspora (Americas).
