Gender Still Matters

In 1909, Ella Flagg Young made a prediction that women would be in the top positions in school leadership. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, the number of women in educational administration still lags behind the number of men. However, some women have been able to move into educational administration despite a history of sex-role socialization in education. This book describes the conditions under which female school leaders in Virginia''s public secondary schools were able to defy the odds and advance into educational administration.
