Differences in product requirements mean packaging often needs special features like child resistance or vacuum sealing. Often these types of specialist packaging cause problems to those with reduced strength or dexterity. The inability to perform the most basic of tasks needed for daily living is a situation that demands research. A device has been designed to measure the loads involved in the opening of child-resistant closures. By replicating the characteristics of these products and integrating force measurement devices, a device has been designed that can measure the isolated loads from each point of contact that is involved in gripping and opening a child-resistant bottle.
