“The knowledge base in Nanopharmaceuticals is growing rapidly, and with the increased understanding of complex biological systems it affords, coupled with increasingly reliable computational models for predicting outcomes, society is approaching healthcare that anticipates disease states rather than simply ameliorates disease symptoms.” Innovative new technologies are changing the face of pharmaceutical R&D by allowing researchers to more effectively identify, select and exploit therapeutic targets, design more efficient drug development models and more quickly analyze the economic efficacy of pharmaceuticals. Nanotechnology comprises technological developments on the nanometer scale, usually 0.1 to 100 nm. Nanoemulsion Drug Delivery Systems (NEDDS) are isotropic mixtures of oil, surfactant and/or cosurfactants, and a drug that spontaneously forms an oil-in-water nanoemulsion upon gentle agitation with water. The purpose of this research was to screen lipid excipients for their nanoemulsification efficiency and to develop nanoemulsion based formulation in liquid and solid forms using selected model drug.
